The Battle of The Shoe 2002 was my 1st year coaching cross country at Eastwood HS. I had a conversation with 2 very good cross country coaches Jerry Shaffer and Chris Gee (then, both of Bel Air) about carring over a footbal tradition between the 2 schools over to cross country. To the best of my knowldege, since the 60's , when Bel Air and Eastwood have played eachother it was called the battle of the helmet, and the winner would keep a trophy of a football helmet painted 1/2 Eastwood and 1/2 Bel Air until the schools met the next year. So we decided to invent "The running of the shoe" in which the Bel Air and Eastwood cross country teams meet every year. The winner takes home the shoe (a trophy painted 1/2 Eastwood and 1/2 Bel Air) until the teams meet the next year. After the meet the teams usually come togather to picnic, and in 2005 a middle school division was added, followed by a highly contested alumni division. Below you will find results from past "Shoe" races. If you run middle school cross country or are a graduate of Bel Air HS or Eastwood HS and are interested in running in this meet (always held the Friday before the HS district cross country meet) please email Coach Mike McLain at mmpre@hotmail.com Below this chart and the picture on this page, you will find results of this meet from 2002 to present.
Eastwood High School would like to thank Terri Gent for his hospitality in researching and helping the Eastwood High Records be accurate.
